COVID-19: What Landlords and Tenants Need to Consider
President Trump made an initial announcement on March 16, 2020, that all evictions
and foreclosures would be deferred for sixty (60) days and Tenants everywhere rejoiced! Unfortunately, the White House had to come out and clarify that this deferment/abatement only applied to HUD properties and federally back mortgages.
As the federal government does not have the right to interfere with State or private contracts especially in Georgia but for certain exceptions. So what does that mean for your lease agreement?
In Georgia, once Landlord and Tenant have entered into a lease, the contract is binding and can be held up in a court of law. This usually means if you do not pay, you do not stay.
